From a webinar on the management of onion armyworm in November, the National Crop Protection Center (NCPC) webinar series 2021 steers to the management of fall armyworm in a webinar conducted on 6 December 2021.

More than 400 participants joined the webinar through Zoom, Facebook, and YouTube.

A total of seven topics were presented during the webinar, namely: biology of FAW by Scientist Marcela M. Navasero, modelling and remote sensing FAW Infestation in Corn by Mr. Gideon Aries S. Burgonio, entomopathogenic nematodes as biological control agents against FAW by Dr. Barbara L. Caoili, potential of entomopathogenic fungi against FAW by Ms. Melissa P. Montecalvo, natural enemies of FAW by Ms. Marie Joy B. Beltran, insecticide resistance management by Ms. Karen P. Ardez, and Grow Asia’s ASEAN FAW Action Plan by Mr. Randolph N. Candano.

Dr. Caoili is from the UPLB Institute of Weed Science, Entomology and Plant Pathology, while the six other resource persons come from NCPC.

The open forum provided an avenue for questions and clarifications from the participants. Among the questions presented were on the possibility of collaboration with NCPC, the reproduction and field application of entomopathogenic nematodes, the effect of FAW on the population of the Asian Corn Borer, among others.
