Farmers’ Field Day on Carrageenan PGP in Lanao del Norte
The Provincial Agriculture Office headed by Ms. Letecia G. Ditucalan conducted a Farmers Field Day this 2 October 2019 at the Provincial Nursery Seed Farm, Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte which was attended by more than 80 farmers and Agricultural Technicians. The theme was Farmers Field Day on Carrageenan Plant Growth Promoter Technology for Rice: A Grant to Rice Farmers in Lanao del Norte. The event was sponsored by HL Trading.
Eighty percent of the livelihood in Lanao del Norte is agricultural. Thus, the current governor of Lanao del Norte envisions greater agricultural development in the province. He is also highly promoting farming since it is the number one source of income in the province.
The farmers were able to witness the performance of hybrid variety Bigante Plus in various fertilizer rates with Carrageenan supplement. Based on the crop stand, rice applied with Carrageenan appears healthier and more resistant to pest. Likewise, the initial data on plant height and number of productive tillers were also better in Carrageenan PGP applied rice. The actual yield performance will be compared after harvest two weeks from now
