Through a collaboration between the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Laguna and the Office of Congresswoman Ruth M. Hernandez, personnel of the National Crop Protection Center learned about Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Standard First Aid in an orientation conducted on February 21 at the NCPC Auditorium.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Barbara L. Caoili, NCPC Director, stressed the importance of being prepared for disasters. “Ang unang hakbang sa pagkakaroon ng kahandaan ay ang pagkakaroon ng tamang kaalaman upang tayo ay makatugon sa anumang emergencies sa angkop na paraan (The first step in being prepared is being equipped with knowledge so we are able to respond appropriately during emergencies),” she added.

Ms. Charmis M. Rivera, Ms. Princess R. delos Reyes, and Mr. Gerwin M. Jolo of the Laguna PDRRMO served as resource speakers during the event. They discussed different disasters as well as what to do in these situations to mitigate their impacts on lives and properties.

After the lectures, the NCPC personnel participated in the demonstration of various first aid strategies in case of different injuries.

After the orientation, Atty. Simonette Lim, Chief of Staff and representative of Cong. Hernandez, Dr. Elpidio M. Agbisit, Jr., CAFS Dean, and Dr. Caoili led the distribution of disaster kits to the NCPC personnel.

Ms. April N. Alviar, NCPC deputy director, closed the program by encouraging the participants to take part in establishing a community that is safe and is prepared to respond during disasters.
