The Pesticide Management Division conducted a training entitled “Pesticide Residue Analysis using the Rapid Test Kit (RTK) and Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) forPesticides in Selected Crops” last April 3-4, 2019 at DA-Cagayan Valley Integrated Agricultural Laboratory, Government Center Carig Sur, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. This training is an initiative of the Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC-Region II) which is in line with food safety as part of food security, particularly for vegetables. Mr. Carlo Leo U. Cabral and Mr. Eric Jhon D. Cruz of NCPC served as the main resource speakers of the training. Around 20 participants were trained on pesticide management, maximum residue limits, and hands-on use of RTK for pesticide residues in selected vegetables.

The RCPC-Region II aims to have safer vegetables entering the market with RTK as a quick detection tool of organophosphate and carbamate pesticide residues. This will strengthen the knowledge of farmers and heighten their awareness about pesticides residues, which in turn would lead to lower residues as a result of better pesticide management practices.
